Arthritis
Arthritis is a pain that affects the joints and bone mass in your body, also knowen as Osteoarthritritis. It is described as an ache and becomes more common as we age but can and does affect people of all ages.
There are many types effecting different parts of the body. Finding out what type you have is very important in working out what treatment will be most effective. The earlier you get treatment the better your chances of preventing joint damage that occurs for the most common types during the initial years.
A doctor is the only person who can tell if you have Arthritis and what type it is. When you see your doctor for the first time about your arthritis condition three things should happen.
Your doctor will: -
Ask you about your symptoms,
Examine you
Take some tests or X-rays
Before you go to your doctor write down your symptoms. When you fine the pain greater, for example; is it in the mornings when it is colder or after exercise. How long the pain lasts and if there is anything that relieves the pain.
Your doctor will be asking questions like: -
how far or how easily you can move the effected joint
is there any swelling
do you have any skin rashes
are there any other areas that cause a similar pain
The doctor may decide to do some tests that have to be sent away for analysis. These tests may include tests of your blood, muscles, urine, joint fluid, X-rays and scans of your body.
Sometimes it can take a few visits for the doctor to determine the type you have and the treatment that will best suit you. It is best to get on top of it early so as not to have any long term damage from the Arthritis.
